Just came across you rmessage. My father was named Elek Sandor, and I am Robert Sandor Elek. Due to language problems, the folks in city hall translated Elek Sandor as one word-Alexander,,,, then added in the last name Elek. Hence, elek sandor became a somewhat redundent Alexander Elek. Also had an uncle bill ( called Bela)

My grandparents Steven and Julia Elek immigrated to the US c. 1903 and lived in NJ til their deaths.
They came from northeast of Budapest. The family on my mothers side came from Tata, a small town on the route to Vienna.

One Elek cousin attended Juilliard for violin back in the 50s, and now resides in Utah last I heard.
