Highlights of the next Skinner Fine Musical Instrument Sale on Sunday May 6, 2001 at 12 noon include two fine Italian 'cellos by Giovanni Grancino and Giuseppe Rocca. The Grancino instrument dates to 1690 and will be sold with a certificate from Dario D'Attili, with a pre-auction estimate of $160,000-180,000. The 'cello by Giuseppe Rocca features a highly flamed back and was made in 1845, to be sold with the certificate of Albert Caressa. Pre-auction estimate is $220,000-280,000. Among the fine violins offered will be a rare example by Domenico Montagnana, c. 1715, once owned by English virtuoso Albert Sammons (1886-1957). Certificates are by W.E Hill & Sons, L.P. Balmforth, and Harry Duffy. Pre-auction estimate is $200,000-250,000. To compliment the sale of fine instruments, an excellent collection of Violin Bows by F. and C. Peccatte, Pajeot, Maline, Sartory, Vigneron, Voirin, Grand-Adam and Tubbs will be offered, as well as a fine Viola Bow by Maire, and 'Cello Bows by Pajeot and Vuillaume. All auctions at Skinner are free and open to the public, and everyone is welcome. Musicians are especially encouraged to attend the public preview or to make an appointment for a private preview.
