A fine and handsome Italian Violin by Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi, Milan, 1759, bearing the label: Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi, Nella Contrada di Santa Margarita al Segro Della Sirena Milano 1759, L.O.B. 14in. (356mm.), in lined and fitted rectangular case with cover

The attractive one-piece back of faint medium almost horizontal curl, ribs of similar figure, scroll plainer, table of close grain broadening on the base flanks, the lightly craquelled varnish of a red colour on a golden brown ground, a good example, in immediate playing condition £45000-50000

A good French Violin by jean Baptiste Vuillaume Paris, circa 1860, bearing the label, Jean Baptiste Vuillaurne a Paris, 3 rue Demours- Ternes, L.O.B. 14 /16in. (357mm.), with a bow, in a rectangular case

The attractive one-piece back of bold medium curl ascending slightly to the right, the ribs and scroll of similar figure, table of even medium grain, tarnish of a red brown colour on a golden brown ground, some skilful old table restorations, now in immediate playing condition, fingerboard is numbered P760, a good example after the Allard Stradivari'    £30000-35000

A fine and rare English Violoncello by Benjamin Banks, Salisbury, 1779,  bearing the makers original label: Made by Benj. Banks, Catherine- St.,  Salisbury, 1779, and branded below the button B. Banks Sarum, with the makers initials on inner top block, L.O.B. 29 1/2in. (747mm.), upper bouts 13 7/8in. (352mm.), lower bouts 17 in. full (433mm.), body stop 15 1/4m. (387mm.), with a bow, in green lined and fitted case
The attractive two-piece back of faint matched narrow horizontal curl, ribs of similar figure, scroll of medium curl, table of open medium grain, varnish of an aged warm deep red brown colour on a brown ground, some restorations, now in immediate playing condition     £30000-35000

The attractive one-piece back of slabwood and small irregular curl, ribs of similar figure, scroll plain, table of close grain, widening slightly on the flanks, varnish of a light red golden brown colour, in good and immediate playing condition

With the Certificate of WE. Hill & Sons, London, signed and dated 19th December 1960, to the above effect, stating: "This instrument is in a good state of preservation .... and is numbered S813 on our books"
