About the Shop

	Welcome to the Thomas Metzler Violin Shop. Located in a beautiful old adobe building in Glendale, California, the Metzler Violin Shop has been serving string players in the Los Angeles area since 1979.
Tom Metzler gives each customer his full attention in his unhurried, soft spoken style. In 1972, while a violin major at the University of Iowa, Tom decided to pursue his romantic dream of being a violin maker. He headed for Mittenwald, Germany and studied German while waiting for an opening at the Bavarian State Trade School for Violin Making. He received a degree in 1976.After a three year apprenticeship with Hans Weisshaar, he opened a small shop with David Rivinus. In 1983 they moved the shop to its present location, and David Rivinus left the business soon afterwards. The business has continued to grow. Tom's wife, Barbara, a violinist joined the business and added the sheet music department. Tom Metzler
We offer a varied selection of fine quality violins, violas, cellos, basses and bows, all expertly set up by our highly trained repair staff. Our other services include repairs, rentals, appraisals and lessons. the workshop

Our sheet music department is an extensive, in depth collection of music for bowed string instruments only. We will be happy to mail sheet music anywhere within the U.S.	We also supply accessories, cases, stands, metronomes, and tuners and a few carefully chosen items, including artwork featuring bowed string instruments.
