Guthrie bows are in the hands of the best string players in the world. These bows display excellent playing qualities and have the ability to produce the full, beautiful sound required by both soloists and orchestra members.
Jaime Laredo: "I'm priviledged to own several of Lee Guthrie's bows, they are the only ones I play."
Sharon Robinson: "I own four of Lee Guthrie's bows, and it's interesting how I always choose one of his bows for my concertizing. Not only are they gorgeous to look at, but they seem to"draw out" the music from my cello. Like all great artists, Lee imparts a certain "human-ness" to these creations, and this quality enhances the music".
Steven Copes, concertmaster St. Paul Chamber Orchestra:"The qualities of Lee's bows that give confidence are those found in any fine French bow: Strength, refinement and purity of tone, and superb craftsmanship. I would recommend them to any serious artist."
For playability I believe the player is the boss. My job as a bowmaker is to come as close as possible to satisfying the player's needs while using the best possible materials. My goal is to make bows that work for players. I have been fortunate to place bows in the hands of Pinchas Zukerman, Sarah Chang, Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Peter Oundjian, Peter Wiley, Kim Kashkashian, Leila Josefowics, the Tokyo String Quartet, Nokuthula Ngwenyama, and members of top orchestras around the world.
