Last year I moved from Pennsylvania to Memphis, Tennessee. My 3 violins and my cello are getting to the point where they are crying out for some expert attention. Is there someone in Memphis I can take them to or will I have to go to St. Louis or Nashville?

There are two people in Memphis who are possibilites, Skip Buss and Bob Fisher, but I have not seen examples of their work. Is anyone here familiar with their work?

There is one member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers (AFVBM) in Tennessee, Charles F. McCook in Johnson City. To become a member of AFVBM you have to be elected after having at least nine years experience and demonstrated ability. Here is their web site : http://afvbm.org/ where you can find contact info for McCook. You might also check neighboring states.

Did you have a regular luthier in PA? Maybe you could ship your instruments?

My repairman in Pennsylvania was just wonderful, but, alas, he has retired.

Johnson City is way over at the other end of the state. It would take all day to get there. I would hate to spend 6 or 7 hours on the road just to find out that I only need new strings and a rehair.
