In Topic: Securing Wittner Cello pegs

Thanks, Oded. You are always a great source of supportive contributions to this site. I appreciate it! That sound like the best approach I could think of as well. Just wondered if there needed to be a consideration for plastic pegs vs. ebony or rosewood. I wondered in the back of my mind if hide glue between plastic and wood holds as well as maybe some other type. Thanks again.

Man after my own heart. Beautiful work! Building one like that would be a great Christmas present for my brother!

Jason,
My first thought as I read your request for tips on setting the sound post is that with every attempt to set the post you make, you gain experience at learning what doesn't work. It's kind of like riding a bike for the first time. I believe you will find the more you set sound posts the easier it will become. You will eventually settle on what system works best for you. Patience is a virtue. Best of luck to you.

I, for one, am very thankful for the assistance I have been given over the years from forums such as this. I stumble onto a lot of valuable information and try to gleen bits of wisdom and experience from the thoughtful and helpful comments offered by many of the contributors. This forum and others like it are a true blessing for aspiring violin makers, like myself, who are unable (unwilling if you insist) to take leave of our daily responsibilities, i.e. employment, family obligations, etc. to dedicate our lives to the formal training necessary to be considered bona fide luthiers. First, I love the music. Then I love the instruments that produce it, and find a real joy immersing myself in the craft . So again, thanks to all who share their joy, skill and experience with their peers and to those at my level.

Fiddlewallop,
I purchased my cam clamps, which I highly recommend for bass bars, at Dubuque Clamp Works. Price was right, delivery was prompt and the clamps are really well made.
Check out the site http://thebestthings...s/camclamps.htm
Good Luck
