I do it as in A but look at all the string players you see and decide.

I paid 400 for an internet suspension case. On the first warm day the varnish from the back button stuck to the velour foam under it. I removed the foam and put in cotton batting and lowered it so it wasn't so tight. Paying good money doesn't mean you get a well designed case.
In Topic: What about Liquid Hide Glue you don't like?

I have a banjo where the maker used that liquid hide glue in a bottle. It started oozing out the side almost immediately and in a few months seperated to the point I could see light between the fingerboard and the neck. Took it back to the maker and he re-glued it albeit with a new bottle of .glue. Same result! I sent it to another maker out of state and he fixed it properly. I have since learned that this original maker has had an ongoing problem with his glue. I can urge that no violin maker should ever use that "Liquid Hide Glue".
In Topic: cello string height

Just as an update to the few who answered my questions. The C string did buzz when any weight was put behind the string and I found it difficult to get the pinky on the D string being so high. With a straightedge I could see how poorly the fingerboard was planed, I could just about stick my pinky under the straightedge in the scoop of the D.
I decided the string shop did not deserve a third chance to rectify my complaints after I spoke directly to the luthier both times. I went to Brobst violins in Virginia, on the other side of the Potomac and got a wonderful cello. String heights are a blessing, blemish free, now I can do some Bach.
When I took the original cello back I told them the fingerboard was crap and it should have to be up to the renter to diagnose the problem when their luthier has looked at it twice before and to please not rent this to some other unsuspecting student who may quit because of this cello. I wonder how many others before me became frustrated and quit. I am dissapointed in this shop although it enjoys a good reputation. I won't be back after having gone to it for 30 years. The problem may be that the original owner does not control it anymore, sad.
So maestronet helped me diagnose this problem and I have a nicer and much more playable instrument because of all of you. Thank you kindly.

I'm always sorry to hear of parents passing. Give him the best send off you can afford and celebrate his life with his friends. Best wishes to you Michele. Kevin
