About Me
Still another hobbyist pretending to make a violin!
Maybe I realized that I probably wouldn't be of great help to music as an amateur cellist (started as an adult), so I'm trying it now as a maker!
Other than that, I'm a professional (freelance) translator living in southern France. I translate from english and german for industries (mostly), as well as publishers, museums and medias (sometimes... sigh!). In fact, I was trained as an engineer and wrote a PhD in materials science. But it's already so long ago... So don't ask me about the stress distribution in a violin plate, this is not what I'm after in violin making!
Oh, by the way, I take photographs, too. You may have a look here (sorry, it's all in french):8x10 Night Polaroids
Thank you for looking at my profile!
Update, november 2011:
Now working on my 6th instrument, my first viola after a Guadagnini model.
All previous 5 were violins, of which the first two were donated to Luthiers sans Frontières, #3 is on loan to a local student, #4 is played by a local teacher and orchestra musician, and #5 has been sold to a student. Two professional violinists who test-played it wanted to keep it!
Seems like I'm having more success building instruments than playing them!
