I have an Oscar Hemmig violin. It says No 833 (handwritten) copy of Amati, copy of 1902 (the 02 handwritten) and not much else other than his name. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you!

I have had several Oscar Hemmig -labeled violins.  One of them was a decent trade violin valued at around $1500 - $1750 and the other was a VSO (violin shaped object) and was very crudely finished on the inside.  These were German factory-produced violins of obvious varying grades that were advertised in the Montgomery Wards & Co. catalogs around the turn of the last century.  I tend to doubt there was an actual maker named Oscar Hemmig but I could be wrong.
