I am juggling which violins to enter in Tucson, and which in the VSA in Cleveland, and I can't find any entrance fee information for the VMAAI. I called Mrs. Shiverick, who is no longer the Membership Chairman, in any case, and I've left a message or two for the new chairman, who I'm sure is on vacation this time of year.
So! Is the VMAAI a relaxed, sort of show-up-and-enter event, or should I bother the other chairpersons by phone?

Put down your theories and pick up the wood.

I haven't been a member for a long time but back when I was you had to take your violins to the competition in person, no entries by mail. That may have changed but I would be surprised if it has. It takes a lot of work to handle that many shipped violins. I wouldn't look at the VMAAI as a must enter competition unless I was going to the conference to meet the other makers.

And pay at the door?, is what I was wondering.
I am looking forward to meeting other makers, and to get my violin into Christopher Germain's hands.

It is a relaxed, show-up-and-enter event. I don't think anybody pre-registers. There have been non-attendee entrants, but someone brought the instruments in. No shipping that I know of, although possibly someone who is driving there would do it for you.

Last year the fees were:

Instruments --$20.00 for members; $25.00 for non-members

Bows-- $ 15.00 for members; $20.00 for non-members

Quartet -- $25.00 for members; $30.00 for non-members

Tone Only -- $ 15.00 for members; $20.00 for non-members

For other details, see the VMAAI website. It's all there, if you follow some of the links.
Making fiddles ain't rocket science... it's much more complicated.

Good luck JacobyFineViolins!

Have a great time there!
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to die.
