I've recently become familiar with this amazing piece! So diverse...it is touching, beautiful, obtuse and blunt-headed, cavalier, explicit, mocking, hilarious and so much more.

Just looking on youtube, I've only found two recordings of the full Paganini piece, one by Salvatore Accardo - which is incredibly good - and one by Marco Misciagna. And I love Vadim Repin's performance, but it is only a teaser of half the theme and 4 variations.

Who else has recorded this piece in it's entirety? Why has it not been done more?

This version which you have perhaps already seen is synched to the sheet music and is played by someone who is truly gifted and impeccable. I do not know who the player is. To the degree that I could ever play any of the advanced variations, it would only be because of having a guide like this. Even so I would probably have to drop half of them. Considering that there are quite a few that is not such a bad deal. I recall that there are some gypsy violinists (or Romanian whatever they identify with now) with some great recordings too who either rearrange or take great liberties with the sheet music.

I believe that is Salvatore Accardo. Wonderful playing! There is another version on the tube that has a violin picture and better sound than the sheet music one...same performance though.
